The Blue Whale presents a double set of world-class Brazilian and Flamenco Jazz, featuring the award-winning pianist Danny Green with bassist Justin Grinnell and drummer Julien Cantelm joined by NYC saxophonist Arun Luthra. They share the bill with flutist Rebecca Kleinmann’s new stunning collaboration with world-renowned flamenco guitarist Jason McGuire’s Trio with percussionist Marlon Aldana and bassist Paul Martin Sounder.

The Danny Green Trio is touring the California coast to promote their latest album After the Calm. Hailed as “one of the important up-and-comers on the scene today” by All About Jazz, Green is one of the most prolific and talented jazz pianists in Southern California, and has received Best Jazz Album at the San Diego Music Awards and awarded a music residency at the San Diego Museum of Art. After receiving scholarships to study music at UC San Diego and San Diego State University, Green developed his own unique style that incorporates a blend of jazz, Brazilian, Latin, and classical elements with evocative melodies and infectious rhythms. Arun Luthra has been one of the premiere saxophonists and composers on New York’s jazz scene for well over a decade. He is one of the small group of American jazz musicians of Indian heritage who have continued to explore to possibilities of fusing the modern post-bop sound with elements of Indian classical music, as well drawing from a wide variety of modern and classic musical influences to create a vibrant new sound and style. In addition to his career as a performer, composer, and arranger, Luthra is also a faculty member at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York alongside such jazz and world music greats as Reggie Workman, Chico Hamilton, and Junior Mance, and Bobby Sanabria.

Internationally acclaimed flutist and singer Rebecca Kleinmann has steeped her natural musicality in the waters of Brazilian Music, Jazz and Flamenco, and honors these traditions while emerging with her own voice. On this California tour she combines forces with the unparalleled virtuosic talent of flamenco guitarist Jason McGuire along with the grooving subtleties of drummer and percussionist Marlon Aldana and bassist Paul Martin Sounder. Jason McGuire "El Rubio" has become synonymous with flamenco despite his Irish/American heritage. As Musical Director of the award winning flamenco dance company Caminos Flamencos as well as Musical Director for "The New World Flamenco Festival," Jason has shared the stage with some of the top flamenco artists in the world today as well as other legendary performers like Carlos Santana, Savion Glover and Wynton Marsalis to name a few. The Jason McGuire Trio joined by versatile Kleinmann will feature original music by McGuire and Kleinmann along with music of composers such as Hermeto Pascoal.
