About

Saxophonist Azar Lawrence has been credited with helping to carry the free Jazz torch lit by John Coltrane and is considered to be a direct descendant (via his years with McCoy Tyner's band) of 'Trane'. Azar began living up to that description in his Jazz life at an early age with Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, Billy Higgins, Muddy Waters and he also made a presence in popular music with names like Watt's 103rd St. Band, Marvin Gaye, Busta Rhymes, to mention a few and he wrote for Earth Wind & Fire and Stanley Turrentine.

Special Guest David Weiss from New York created the band The Cookers. Azar performed and recorded with The Cookers on their 2010 Cast The First Stone. New York based The Cookers takes their name from Freddie Hubbard's 1965 album Night of The Cookers. David has performed with countless legends such as Roy Hargrove, Mulgrew Miller, Jeff Watts, Terence Blanchard Band, Billy Hart, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson, Charles Tolliver, Slide Hampton, James Moody, Tom Harrell, Louis Hayes and many more....

All About Jazz needs your support

Donate
All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
