Led by saxophone soloist/composer/arranger Kim Richmond, the 23-piece orchestra, combines the sounds of large ensemble jazz with symphonic colors and textures, featuring expansive instrumentation that includes five woodwinds, four trumpets, four tenor trombones, two French horns, Rhythm Section, Latin percussion and more. The evening of free-swinging improvisation pays tribute to legendary jazz figure Stan Kenton and his Neophonic Orchestra with “Kentonesque” jazz and Latin-style compositions - the size and scope of the master’s kinetic orchestration, rightfully known to music historians as the original “Wall of Sound,” as well the premiere of a new major work....
