Legendary Maestro Phil Ranelin, Ensemble Leader - trombone, percussion & vocal

The "Bonafied" Ensemble
The Phil Ranelin Jazz Ensemble, (a Multi-Generational Jazz Ensemble formed in Los Angeles, California in 1996) led by Trombonist/ Composer/ Arranger/ Phil Ranelin, has shared the bill with Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, Pharoah Sanders, Christian McBride, Archie Shepp and Organist Jimmy Smith. Born and raised in Indianapolis Indiana, Trombonist Ranelin has been a main stay of the Los Angeles Jazz scene since the late 1970's (Ranelin relocated from Detroit in 1977 to join Trumpeter Freddie Hubbard's band); In 1999, Phil was designated Cultural Ambassador for the City of Los Angeles and also designated a "Rare and Valuable Cultural Treasure", During the mid to late 1990's, Ranelin along with his representative Dalili Pierson, implemented a Los Angeles Jazz Appreciation Series that honored such Los Angeles Jazz icons as Dexter Gordon ,Charles Mingus, Hampton Hawes, Melba Liston, Harold Land, Horace Tapscott & Eric Dolphy . In January of 2015 at the Panama Jazz Festival, Ranelin , with a 12 piece Panamanian version of the Phil Ranelin Jazz Ensemble, opened up for Saxophonist Benny Golson in honor of Festival Honoree Eric Dolphy! In September of 2016, Ranelin, a 4th generation Indianapolis . Indiana native, was invited back to his home town to perform at the Indy Jazz Festival in honor of the late great Wes Montgomery. During the 2016 Indy Jazz Festival , Phil was inducted into the Indianaplis Jazz Hall of Fame. Ranelin is excited to return to the World Stage to perform “Bonafied” a birthday tribute to Legendary Trombonist, Melba Liston & JJ Johnson...
