Vera Ludmila has been surrounded by music since she was a toddler. Passionate about music, she has watched some of the best musicians perform, wherever she lived. If there’s one thing she loves doing is going to concerts.
While she was getting her degree in Sociology, she was living in the famous neighborhood “low-Leblon”, Rio, a meeting spot for many intellectuals, poets, filmmakers, and musicians, learning a lot from them. In the eighties, after living for years in Bahia, Brazil, she moved to New York, where she became a chef and followed many of the best jazz musicians in history. She also helped Guilherme Franco to promote the samba group Pé-de-boi in NY. In 1985, after moving to Los Angeles, she was a crucial part of the project Samba e Saudade, created by Maria Lucien, who made huge Brazilian events at the Hollywood Palladium Carnival from 1986 to 2000.

Such connection to music and musicians led Vera Ludmila to create Vera’s Heartbeat, a concert guide and music agency that value quality musicians and venues. Her flagship event was the “Melodia Week: The Los Angeles Tribute to Luiz Melodia”, a week of events celebrating the legacy of the legendary Brazilian singer-songwriter with musicians from the Angeleno scene and special guest from Brazil Renato Piau, Melodia’s partner, who performed with two incredible bands produced by Vera (read more about the event on our Melodia Week Page). Only this year she has helped to promote shows by François de Lima, Guinga, Comarc de Barra, Anaadi, among others. For next year, she is planning on another unique tribute in honor of the great Brazilian poet Vinicius de Moraes.
